Our Philosophy
We believe that a society is constructed by cultural, social, political and environmental factors, all of which contribute to overall health of the population. We acknowledge that complex details within a society further influence health, including community beliefs, values, traditions, spirituality and family.
We believe in the uniqueness of the individual and understand that culture, lived experiences, environment and socioeconomic elements contribute to the beliefs of well-being, health status and health outcomes of each individual person.
We believe that in the simplest form, nursing is the concept of providing care and assistance to individuals, families and the community in an effort to optimize health, prevent illness, rehabilitate from illness or injury and to alleviate suffering. We believe effective nursing care affirms the diverse needs of the individual, advocates for health attainment and promotes well-being.
We believe that nurses are the leaders of health-care delivery and they have a moral and ethical duty to provide culturally compassionate, holistic and evidence-based care to members of their community.
We believe that nursing is equally an art and a science, and both must be instituted to achieve nursing practice. It is our belief that nursing practice is comprised of theoretical concepts, experience, knowledge, research and an ongoing commitment to quality and improvement of the profession.
We believe that practical nursing in an integral role in achievement of positive health outcomes within our community and state. We believe the Licensed Practical Nurse can be an important member of the healthcare team. It is our belief that the Licensed Practical Nurse can provide basic nursing skills and foster therapeutic relationships in patient care delivery. We believe the Licensed Practical Nurse is accountable for only performing nursing skills and providing nursing care for which they have been appropriately educated and that falls within the Scope of Practice.
We believe that formal nursing education should provide a foundation for the development of the knowledge, skills and attitudes of the professional nurse. We believe that nursing faculty have a responsibility to create academic initiatives that promote engagement and nurture professional growth. It is our belief that learning can only occur in an environment that is open to inquiry, stimulates creativity and where one feels safe.
Lastly, we believe nurse educators must strive for excellence in education, in order to provide students with the clinical reasoning, professional identity and commitment to the profession that is necessary for role of the practical nurse. We believe that as nurse educators we are responsible for setting the example and laying the cornerstone for life-long learning and professional development.
Established in 1951, Arkansas Health Care Association (AHCA) is the state’s largest organization of long term care providers, representing more than 95% of the licensed long term care facilities in Arkansas. Its responsibilities are to educate, inform and represent members and member facilities before government agencies, other trade associations and related industries.
The organization provides training, education and assistance to care facilities across the state, promoting high-quality care for patients and strict professional standards for staff. AHCA also strives to cooperate with the state legislature and state Office of Long Term Care to improve the quality of life in Arkansas nursing homes.
